Majestic Theater History -

Originally opened as a vaudeville and silent movie venue in 1925, the Gettysburg Majestic Theater features original Colonial Revival style architecture, decorative pressed tin ceilings, stained glass chandeliers, ornate stage draperies, and a rich color palette that transports visitors back in time to the splendor of live theater venues and movie houses of the 1920's.

Once a popular entertainment destination, the Majestic fell into disrepair, suffering from neglect and decay until it was rescued in early 2003. In 2004, the Majestic Theater underwent an extensive, $16.5 million restoration process that refurbished the building's historic features, added two state-of-the-art movie theaters, included a new cafe, modernized the theater's backstage facilities, and improved overall amenities for visitors and performers alike.

The Majestic Theater has been a center for the movies form more than 80 years, hosting several movie premieres throughout its history, including Cecil B. DeMille's The Road to Yesterday in 1925, Fellini's Satyricon in 1970 and the Civil War classic Gettysburg in 1993. Today the Majestic features an expanded two-screen movie theater that offers stadium seating, high-quality sound and gourmet concessions and shows an eclectic blend of popular movies, independent films, foreign films and documentaries.

All film tickets at the Majestic are $7.50 per person and can only be purchased at the box office. The Majestic box office is open Mon.-Sat., noon-7:30pm; Sun., 3pm-7:30pm.
